How did I never know about this place?!

Almost the entire six years we lived in Fairfax County, we never knew we lived five minutes away from an amazing wetlands preserve. We squeezed in two visits to Huntley Meadows Park during our final month in town because this place is really amazing. Frogs galore! Turtles -- including the giant snapping variety -- everywhere! Multiple sets of mama ducks trailed by a string of babies! And birds, birds, birds! A really wonderful place for anyone in the NoVA area to check out in case I'm not the only clueless one out there. :)

A few photos from our last visit there, when we got to share our newly discovered favorite with Grammie and Grandpa Mike (I was kicking myself for not bringing the DSLR camera):

Thanks for the reminder! I used to live just down the street from there a looong time ago! I never even thought to take the kids there!
