Walk for Education 2011

Back at the start of October, our family participated in the Walk for Education that raises money for our public school system's foundation. It was a glorious day outside and a fun way to show school spirit. This year, there were 6,000 walkers who helped raise $100,000 for special school projects like accessible school playgrounds and picnic tables for outdoor lunches.

We had fun before we even got to the walk because we took the school bus "shuttle" from our elementary school to the start of the walk downtown. Our kids (who won't get to ride the bus until high school because we are in walking distance to both the elementary and middle schools) were beyond thrilled for their first official school bus ride!

Once the walk started, we marched with all the other families from our elementary school (including two of Amelia's best friends from class: Cate and Anna) and chanted the school slogans, and Amelia (in super hero garb) helped hold one of the school banners for the entire walk through downtown Chapel Hill.

At the end of the walk, all the schools celebrated together at a big fair with cotton candy and bounce houses. And then we got to end the day with another school bus ride. Perfection!
