On the day of my grandfather's memorial service, the UNC men's basketball team played Georgia Tech, and Amelia was there to see her very first live Carolina sporting event. She and Luke sat in my grandfather's seats, ushering in a new generation of Carolina faithful. I know Granddaddy was looking down on them and feeling very proud!
We had no idea how Amelia would do during a two-hour sporting event in an arena that seats more than 20,000 people, but she did great! Luke reported that she ate a turkey and cheese sub for lunch, devoured an entire cup of popcorn on her own, clapped and cheered for Carolina, booed at the refs, kept tabs on Rameses, and lasted until 7 minutes left in the game. Although she didn't want to leave, Luke said she was so exhausted that she fell asleep in her car seat before they even got out of the parking lot. She must have had a great time because she hasn't stopped talking about it since! We all wish we could see more basketball in person -- yet another reason to get back to Chapel Hill ASAP!
